To Blend? Or Not To Blend?

That is the question.

Which is better, A blender or a food processor?

The blender of today seems to have become an antiquated piece of art. A lot of us think that it outlived its usefulness with the coming of its grandkid: the food processor. Surprisingly, this old chap has features that its progeny cannot match. Thus, in this article, we will be talking about why you should still have blenders, regardless of whether you’re a food processor fanatic or not.

Clean-up jobs are jobs that most people detest. The blender, unlike the food processor, has very few parts. Furthermore, the food processor’s truckload of components is composed of very small pieces. Hence, it is much easier to clean blenders. How I wish life was that simple.

Food processors have a wider array of functions that the blender, so a lot of people prefer using them. However, there are some functions that the food processor seems to overdo. Take pureeing for example. The food processor’s blades are situated too close to the base, so anything that gets put in it is processed very thoroughly. We don’t want purees to look like soda pop, right?

Furthermore, blenders are sturdier than food processors. We can use it to crush ice, smoothies and soups. Some soups, like those made from pumpkins and squash, are too challenging for the food processor. The processor’s blades would easily dull or the motor will just conk out.

Cheap! Blenders are cheaper than food processors. A blender starts at $10 while the cheapest food processors start at 20. But that’s not the end of the story. The difference in performance between a $15 blender and a $25 food processor is immense. This is can be attributed to the fact that it costs less to manufacture a blender as it has much fewer parts than the other. Hence, a $25 food processor’s vastly cost-reduced production translates to either drastically lower power or shortened lifespan.

All these points are not meant to imply that you should throw your trusty food processor away. Instead, keep it as it still does more than what a blender can do. But then, still keep a blender at home, because some of its features are simply indispensable.
